Briefly describe your best win at Wheelersburg

The two that stick out in my mind the most were both during our senior year.

Portsmouth had beaten us the year before, both giving us our only loss and preventing us from going to the playoffs.  Our senior year we repaid them and them some.  We put a whoopin’ on ‘em.

Winning the Regional Championship in Spartan Stadium vs. Nelsonville-York was also memorable that year. It would bring our class’s 3-year win total to 28, and would be the last win of our high school careers.

Briefly describe your hardest loss at Wheelersburg

Again there are two; the only two losses of our senior year.

We lost to Ironton in week 4, 14-7.  I still to this day think that we were the better team.  Even a few mistakes against a team like Ironton are enough for them to win.  With that said, we kept them in the game with those mistakes.  A comeback in the second half had begun, but it was too late.

The last game we played together vs. Valley View in the state semi-finals.  Valley View did little that they had shown on tape, and two-platooned as well.  We were supposed to win another state championship that season.  Instead, we went home, again eliminated in the playoffs at Groveport-Madison High School like our sophomore year.  It took ten years for me to be able to watch that tape!

Describe the most memorable event while playing at Wheelersburg

We were not of class of individuals to be sure, so my most memorable moments were given to me by my teammates.  Being allowed to lead the team out of the locker room against Portsmouth on Senior Night and be awarded the first-ever “Coach’s Award” at the banquet are memories that I will cherish.
