Briefly describe your best win at Wheelersburg |
|
It is hard to describe
the best win over my three year career. There were a number
of wins in 92 that were not expected from us like victories
vs. #1 ranked Huntington East, Portsmouth, and Waverly. In
93 it would have to be vs. Huntington East as we came from
behind in the last few minutes to win after being ahead
early by several touchdowns. In 94 the ass kicking we gave
Portsmouth after they knocked us out of the playoffs in 93.
That was a game in which none of us wanted to end! Also the
2 playoff games we won vs. Nelsonville and Amanda
Clearcreek. Back then they only took the top 4 teams out of
each region and it was a lot tougher to get a playoff spot.
I can still remember being in the locker room before those
playoff games. The focus we had as a team was the same
regardless of whether or not you were a sophomore who did
not play or a senior that was on the field all the time. |

Briefly describe your hardest loss at Wheelersburg |
|
The toughest loss for
me was always the one that ended your season. However I
still think about our only regular season loss in 94 vs.
Ironton. This was the first year of the renewed rivalry.
When I think about the support we received before and during
the game it gives me chills still today. It was and still
is the most number of people I have ever witnessed in Ed
Miller Stadium. I can remember walking up the hill and
there was a line all the way to the street. People were
giving me words of encouragement as I walked by. I can
remember going out for special teams and you could not see a
seat or a piece of grass on the hill. To lose that game
when so many people were counting on us to win hurt more
than I can explain. I can still remember receiving a hug
from Peggy Blankenship as I walked out of the locker room
and all I could say was that I was sorry. |

Describe the most memorable event while playing at
Wheelersburg |
|
What I remember the
most was how close our senior class was. As a group we only
lost 6 games from 7th grade to 12th
grade. I think about all my experiences while playing
football in high school, college, and pre-season NFL and
nothing compares to the years at Wheelersburg. The
tradition that has been laid down over the years and learned
by each class is something that I will never take for
granted. I feel as though we held up our end of the bargain
by representing the school and the community with class. It
started when we were young and we had it in our minds that
we were going to be the best. We fell short our senior year
when looking at our record but we did our best and left a
lasting impression on the classes to follow. |
