combined 48 playoff appearances between two
opponents in the State of Ohio this season.

the game was moved to week one in 1998.
There have been nail-biting finishes and
blowouts. There have been very well played
games, and there have been poorly played games.
It has been low scoring and high scoring.
You never know what you are going to get in this
game, but you are guaranteed to walk away
knowing that it is football season.
Winning this game can create momentum for the
season ahead, and typically generates a lot of
playoff points. Historically, the winner
of this game has made the playoffs every time.
On the other hand, losing this game has not been
a major factor in playoff qualification since
the expansion to 8 teams per region.
Losing this game can allow the team to recognize
their weaknesses, and also creates a "gut-check
time" for the senior leaders.
2010 will
mark the 20th
matchup overall between these two programs, and they
have met every season since 1994. The
series stands at Ironton 14, Burg 5. The
